Any project manager operates four elements: spending, schedule, time and producing a satisfactory result. Qualified project managers also attempt to make the organization of work more efficient. Look at any project and you will observe that it employes people, funds and equipment to deliver end results. You should know that there are a lot of things that are vital for effective project management. A few of them can be found in the next paragraph:

- Establishing objectives and conducting analysis.

- Managing risk. The majority of projects have a this or that degree of risk.

- Assigning and managing resources.

- Understanding the product you want to obtain on completion of the project.

- Controlling the project in terms of who is performing what and at what time.

- Managing quality.

- Managing changes. Change happens. All projects develop in time, so the element of dynamics should be accounted for.

- Communicating with sponsors and participants of the project.

Conventional ways of managing projects, such a pen and a notepad, can be employed to do the majority of of these things. However, you get quite a few advantages if you decide to use project tracking software:

- It makes scheduling easy. A program will process timing adjustments. It is possible to set work time-tables for various people. It just as well simplifies tracking the work-in-progress on different jobs.

- Coordinating several projects with different requirements. Productivity management software allows project managers to observea bigger picture and collect data on a number of projects.

- Critical path is clearly visible. The critical path of a project consists of tasks that determine the actual length of the project. If a task on the critical path takes longer than the manager planned, the whole timing of the project will be changed. It should be noted that for tasks that are outside the critical path minor changes in duration can have no impact whatsoever on other activities.

- Letting all involved be aware of what is happening. Complicated projects require data exchanges. Groupware productivity tracking software allows everybody to be on the same page every time.

Is it always a must to employ task tracking software?

Like any instrument, project tracking software has its limitation. The best time to use such programs is when you supervisea few large projects. It might be a good idea to manage simple projects by hand, so that there is no need to pay large overhead connected with employing complex software solutions.

Project management: what is it all about

Any project manager handles four elements: cost, schedule, time and producing a satisfactory result. Qualified PMs also attempt to make the organization of work better. Take your project and you will observe that it employes labour, money and tools to deliver satisfactory results. You may come across a lot of contributing factors that are very important for successful project management. Some of them can be found in the next paragraph:

- Establishing objectives and carrying out analysis.

- Managing uncertainty. Any project has a lot of risks that should be dealt with.

- Assigning and supervising resources.

- Having a clear idea about the outcome you wish to obtain when the project is finished.

- Managing what is happening: assigning tasks, supervising the work-in-progress.

- Managing adequate quality.

- Dealing with change. Everything changes. Most tasks occur in time, so the element of change should be properly considered.

- Talking to people doing the project.

Conventional methods of managing projects, such a pen and a notepad, can be employed to manage the majority of of these things. But you get some interesting benefits if you decide to use project tracking software:

- It makes scheduling easy. Duration can be adjusted automatically depending on the workload information. Every worker can have their own calendar. Tracking progress also becomes not that much of an issue.

- Dealing with a number of projects and handling a number of requirements. Management can use progress management software to facilitate analysis of several big projects.

- Critical path is nicely observable. The critical path is an important principle in project management. Should a task on the critical path change duration, the whole project is going to be touched by this change. At the same time for tasks that are outside the critical path small modifications in how long it takes can have no effect whatsoever on the project.

- Allowing everybody involved be aware of what is going on. The more complicated are the project requirements, the more of them have to be discussed. Groupware productivity tracking software allows each participant to be on the same page every time.

Should you every time choose task tracking software?

Project tracking software might not be appropriate in every case. It delivers the best value when used for several big projects. It might be more appropriate to operate smaller projects manually, so that you do not have to pay big overhead associated with using complicated programs.
